Standard Services
The “standard grind” is grinding to a depth of 3-6″ below grade, depending on the site and desired outcome. This includes the adjacent trunk “flair”, but not roots that may be scattered just above or underground throughout the yard. This is the most often performed stump grind. If you wish for exposed roots to be “chased”, or ground out that can be completed as well.
The chips resulting from the grinding are placed in a rounded pile above the grind area and over time will settle. All other areas are raked and cleaned of the majority of the chips.
Eventually, and depending on the tree species and its size, the chips will be slightly above level with the surrounding grade. However, depending on the grind, after some time has passed some chips may need to be removed in order to get to a more level area.
Additional Services
Root grinding outside the main trunk area. The “flare” of the main tree is part of the main grind, but often roots can be exposed further away and throughout a yard, especially for tree species such as maples, sweet gum, and cypress (in moist ground areas).
Excess chip removal. This can be accomplished if not wishing to wait for the natural leveling and decay process to unfold. It can be costly, as the chips are heavy and expensive to dispose of.
An extra deep grind. This can be for up to approximately 12″ below grade. This is used for areas that are to be replanted with deeper rooted plants. This grind may not remove the entire base of the tree, but each tree offers a different potential outcome. If other areas are available for trees that were removed due to disease then new plantings should occur outside the grind area (generally for planting new trees that were the same or similar species to the tree that was removed).
Root grinding for live trees. This can be accomplished, but depends on the tree species, the location and extent of the roots to be ground, and the health of the tree. It is generally not recommended, but again, with due consideration and study it may be possible. Give me a call and I will evaluate such.
Additional Note on Utilities and Other Underground Items
It is recommended that the client contact Sunshine 811 before having the area ground out so as to have utilities located (for free), which is usually completed in 2 days. Other items such as sprinkler systems and water service are typically not located by Sunshine 811, as they are private utilities. Although we are careful and cautious, Coyote Stump Grinding assumes no responsibility for damage that may occur to these items.
