Serving all of Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough Counties.
Let us do the hard work for you by grinding that stump or troublesome roots!
Coyote Stump Grinding is a stump and root grinding/removal service located in Dunedin Fl and serving all of Pinellas, Pasco, and Hillsborough Counties .
The “standard grind” is grinding the stump down to a depth of 4-6″ below grade. This includes the adjacent trunk “flair”, but not roots that may be scattered throughout the yard. This is the most often performed stump grind.
The “chips” resulting from the grinding are placed in a pile above the grind area and over time will settle. Larger ground stumps may need to have chips removed (see below). All other areas are raked and cleaned of the majority of the chips.
Eventually, and depending on the tree species and its size, the chips will come close to level with the surrounding grade. However, some chips may need to be removed in order for the site to become level with the surrounding grade.
Additional Stump and Root Grinding Services
Root grinding outside the main trunk area. The “flare” of the main tree is part of the main grind, but often roots can be exposed (i.e., above grade) further away and throughout a yard, especially for tree species such as maples, sweet gum, and cypress.
Excess chip removal. This can be accomplished if not wishing to wait for the natural leveling and decay process to unfold.
Adding soil and re-sodding. This is completed after excess chip removal and includes putting an appropriate amount of soil down and matching the surrounding grass species with newly placed sod. Note that both the decaying chips and the sod will be needing nitrogen, so it may take time for the sod to be fully established (e.g., there may be yellow or brown areas in the sod until the area fully equalizes).
An extra deep grind. This can be for up to approximately 12″-14″ below grade. This grind is used for areas that are to be replanted with deeper rooted plants and may not remove all the base of the tree (each tree offers a different potential outcome). If other areas are available for trees that were removed due to disease then new plantings should occur outside the grind area (generally for planting new trees that were the same or similar species to the tree that was removed).
Root grinding for live trees. This can be accomplished, but depends on the trees species, the location and extent of the roots to be ground, and the health of the tree. It is generally not recommended, but again, with due consideration and study it may be possible. Give me a call and I will evaluate your situation.
The Stump Grinding Machine
The 5014 stump grinder (a.k.a., stump cutter) is one of the most popular machines produced by Carlton (Spartanburg, SC). It is very versatile and can be used on almost any size stump, although there are two larger sizes produced by Carlton. This one is very easy on the lawn, and with two of the four front wheels removed can fit inside a 36″ wide pedestrian gate!
The picture below shows how this machine can get places that most grinders will not go. This was a job for Challenger Pools (out of Tampa) in Palm Harbor and after the pool was installed and the trench dug out, they discovered an old palm stump. It took some maneuvering, but I was able to complete the job to their satisfaction – and my machine stayed out of the pool.
The “5014” refers to a 50″ sweep side to side and the 14″ is the maximum depth of the grind. It should be noted that most grinds are done to a depth of approximately 5″ to allow for grass to grow over the area. However, a deeper grind can be done, as shown below where a drainage swale needed to be installed right where a large oak once was.
